Welcome to the High School Choir Page!

We are coming off of a successful All School Variety Show - our 13th annual!  It's a great time to showcase students not necessarily in our music programs and for our staff to show a different side of themselves as well.  This annual event is sponsored by the Concert Choir and is organized and run by the students.  This year we added a new dimension - our very own (Jazz) "House Band"!  They were a hit - they have a permanent gig if they want it!!

Here are some of the events we have on our calendar for the next 2 months:

April 3rd Choir Festival Concert 7:30 p.m.  Lancer Choir, Barbershoppers and Concert Choir will perform.  All students are expected to be at the entire performance.

April 16th LCHS hosts the Large Group Choir Festival.  This is an all day event and the public is welcome to attend.  Volunteers are needed.  For more details, please contact Mrs. Swerman

Week of March 25-28 the Lancer Choir students will be choosing their BROADWAY solos.
Week of March 31-April 4 the Concert Choir students will be choosing their BROADWAY solos.

The Broadway Unit is the last  unit of the school year.  During this time we learn of the origins of Musical Theatre, study some of the more popular ones from years past and even a little about the most current on Broadway in New York and touring the country.  We will be attending a musical performance at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre as we have for the last 15 years.  This is a fun and rewarding day as students get to see firsthand what it's like back stage, in the costume shop and sometimes even from the performers themselves when we take the  Backstage Tour.  After that we have a nice dinner (and practice our best manners!) and finally see the selected show.  This year's production of 42nd Street should be a lot of fun - especially for some of our dancers! (chaperones are welcome on a first come, first serve basis - also based on space availability- contact Mrs. Swerman if interested.)

We culminate the unit and the school year with student performances of a Broadway song of their choice.  Students are graded on their vocal performance of course, but are also expected to use costumes, props and movement in order for the audience to "get a snapshot" of their particular musical.  Research into the composer, show synopsis and character are essential in order for the performance to be top rate!

These performances will be scheduled for various times in May during the rehearsal hour and are open to the public.

May 3 is State S/E for those students receiving a *1 at the district festival.  More details to come as we get closer.  The event is held at UW-L and is open to the public.

May 19th is our final concert of the year - our Spring Concert!  We recognize our Seniors and applaud their accomplishments throughout their high school career in choir and the National School Choral Award is given to a deserving senior.

Finally, BOTH choirs combine for Graduation on June 8th.  Students should arrive at the arena by 2:00 p.m. and should be finished by 2:45 or earlier.
