8th Grade Band Print E-mail
Meet The Director : Mr. Henke
This is my 29th year of directing bands at LaCrescent. I am very proud that LaCrescent Middle School Band students have always met the high standards and goals of our program. LaCrescent's instrumental music students possess tremendous talent and it is my mission to see that each student develops to his or her full potential. Every time we perform, the public enjoys the fruits of our labors. I am very proud to be associated with these fine young musicians. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please call me at 507-895-5306, or E-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
I look forward to seeing you at our next performance!!!
So for now... keep the music alive... and GO BIG GREEN!!!!

Solo & Ensemble Unit Requirements and Expectations

Each student in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band is required to prepare and perform a solo or ensemble selection for performance in class.  Students will work with their lesson instructor in November to choose a piece of music that is appropriately challenging. For all 7th and 8th graders and many 6th graders, this music will be chosen from the current “WSMA Solo & Ensemble Music List”. A note will be sent home at that time with each student containing music purchasing information.  It is our expectation that each student will come to their next scheduled lesson with their solo or ensemble music so we can begin working on it ASAP.  Students will also receive a S&E packet to complete which will be evaluated and contribute to their final grade for the S&E unit.  Each student will then perform their solo or ensemble music in class for a grade in January. All students who receive a grade of “C” or higher for the in class performance of WSMA Music are then eligible to enter and are encouraged to participate in our district solo and ensemble festival in February.  All 7th and 8th grade band students will be performing at Solo & Ensemble Festival in February in a Woodwind Choir, Brass Choir, or Percussion Ensemble. We also recommend that all soloists going to district festival use the services of a piano accompanist (for a small $fee).  We would be happy to help you find an accompanist if need be.  Students who choose to work hard on the S&E Music Unit become much better musicians very quickly.  Remember, everything you do in life is more fun when you give it your best effort!
